The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of U. P., also known as ‘Asocham U P’, is a State level, premier Chamber of Trade, Commerce and Industry, representing large, medium and small units in private, co-operative and public sectors. It was established in the year 1994 with a view to create an environment in which the trade and industry could grow and prosper, besides ensuring welfare of the member- units.
The Chamber has had the privilege of having superb guidance from renowned business magnets like Dr. B. K. Modi, its founder President and subsquently Late Shri Narendra Mohan, M.P. , Shri U. K. Modi of Modi Group of Industries, Shri C. K. Sah (Sah Machine Tools, Varanasi), Shri Irshad Mirza (Mirza International Limited, Kanpur ) and Shri L. K. Jhunjhunwala (Faizabad) as Presidents. This year again Shri Irshad Mirza, a well reputed Leather Industrialist/ Exporter, who is deeply devoted to the cause of industrial promotion in the State of U. P., has taken over as President of the Chamber. The Chamber has a Managing Committee comprising of members representing different business interest groups.
The ASOCHAM UP enjoys recognition from the Central as well as State Governments and is member of various Committees, Working Groups, Boards, Councils, Task Forces, Tripartite Committees and other Forums of the Central and the State Government, besides those constituted from time to time, by Udyog Bandhu, U. P. Active participation in all these Forums enables the Chamber to play an effective and vital role in matters concerning policy formulation and helping the trade and industry sector in general and member units in particular, in solution of their problems and settlement of disputes etc.
The Chamber is closely associated with different trade and industry connected organisations in U.P. and affiliated to apex organisations like FICCI, PHDCCI, ASSOCHAM, A.I.O.E., I.T.P.O. etc. and various other prominent bodies. It organises Seminars, Workshops on contemporary Issues, conducts training and awareness programmes at different important places, besides interactive meetings with Ministers, and Senior Officers for highlighting and discussing with them, the potentials/problems of industries. In past, the Chamber had the privilege of receiving the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, the Chief Minister of U.P., Governor of Uttaranchal and a number of other dignitaries from within the country and abroad.
A monthly magazine entitled ‘ACCIUP MASIK PATRIKA’ is also published by the Chamber for circulation amongst its members, to keep them posted up to date about Government policies, important orders, notifications, trends of foreign and domestic market and all other contemporary affairs. An E-Bulletin has also been started by the Chamber for the benefit of its members. The Union Commerce Ministry has authorised the Chamber for issue of Certificate of Origin to the exporting community. There are subject-wise Expert Committeess headed by experienced industrialists to deal with and advise about important matters. There are also Zonal Vice Presidents to take care of the trade and industry sector in their respective zones. The Chamber’s Secretariat is headed by Secretary General assisted by middle and junior level staff.
Any unit of trade, commerce and industry, including service sector establishments operating in U.P./ Uttaranchal or having a stake in these States, can take the membership of the Chamber which aims at industrial well-being, overall growth, economic prosperity and welfare of industry and above all for the service and glory of our nation. |
